Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
His commitment to service, justice, and equality continues to inspire us to stand up for one another and serve our communities with compassion and integrity.
— Valley Professional Firefighters Local 1352
It's been 31 years since this tragedy.
Heartbreaking news from Tacoma tonight. Washington State Patrol Trooper Tara Guting was killed after being struck by a vehicle while working an accident scene. Only 13 months out of the academy, her life and career were cut far too short. Keeping her family and our law enforcement family in our thoughts.
Happy Thanksgiving from Local 1352 – Valley Professional Firefighters!
Today we’re grateful for the support of our community and the privilege of serving you. Wishing everyone a safe, warm, and happy holiday with family and friends.

We are proud to announce that Engine 336 was officially placed into service on February 4th, 2024. This new engine company will primarily serve the North Auburn area. It is currently stationed at Station 31 until the new Station 36 construction is complete. Engine 336 will relieve Station 31 of a significant portion of their call volume, which was over 6,000 calls in 2023, and it will provide better service to our citizens in North Auburn.

Thank you to our citizens for the continued support and we look forward to better serving our community!
Your Valley Professional Fire Fighters responded to an aircraft crash in North Auburn this morning. The pilot reportedly had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Auburn Way N is currently closed between 37th and 41st due to this incident.

Fires in areas without hydrants can be challenging and water tenders are used to get large volumes of water to the scene of the fire. Water tenders are used for wildland fires and our tender is also an important resource in south King County for incidents such as this.

WHAT WILL PROPOSITION 1 DO?

-It will enable the VRFA to build a new station in the rapidly growing North Auburn area.
-Relocate Station 38 to better serve the communities of Algona and Pacific
-Replace Station 31 that does not meet modern seismic, health, and safety standards for fire stations.
-Improve training, support, and maintenance facilities to ensure firefighters are ready and have the proper tools in working order to serve the community in their time of need.

Proposition 1 funds will NOT be used for personnel or salary increases.

Thank you for your support!
FILL THE BOOT- Look for your off duty Valley Professional Fire Fighters at the intersection of Lakeland Hills Way and Lake Tapps Parkway SE today from 12:00-4:00. All money collected goes directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association! We look forward to seeing you!
Today we remember the 343 firefighters and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on this day 22 years ago, as well as many who have died of illness related to ground zero. We are also remembering all of the survivors who were affected by this tragedy and will share a survival story.

“On 9/11, Lieutenant Mickey Kross was doing paperwork at the FDNY Engine Company 16 firehouse when his company received the order to dispatch to the World Trade Center. He reported to the North Tower’s 23rd floor.
Upon orders to evacuate, he was descending stairwell B when there was a loud roar. The building was falling. Kross curled his body into a corner of the stairwell.

A few hours later, sheltered by the stairway, Kross, 11 other members of the FDNY, a PAPD officer, and one civilian emerged relatively unscathed into a landscape of twisted steel and rubble.”

We recently received the unfortunate news that our Brother and friend Bill Mack has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. Brother Mack was a member of Local 1352 beginning in 1992 when he was hired with the then Auburn Fire Department, until he took a position as a Deputy Chief with East Pierce Fire & Rescue and Rescue in 2021.

Bill had a great impact on our membership, firefighters across the state, and our community during the 29+ years that he was a member of Local 1352 . Brother Mack served as a District Representative for the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters, Vice-President of our Executive Board, and he negotiated several contracts as a member of our Negotiations Team.

Our community was also lucky to have him. In addition to his excellent work on emergency responses, Bill volunteered countless hours of his personal time to various charitable and community outreach programs such as the Nick of Time Foundation.

Brother Mack has given so much to firefighters and the community. This is our chance to give back to him and to show how much we appreciate all that he has done for us. Please consider donating to help the Mack Family with medical expenses, daily needs, and other expenses while Bill takes on this fight. You can see the attached flyer for ways to donate or click the link below.

We cannot say thank you enough to the men and women who have served our great country. Happy Veterans Day.
Twenty years later and it is still impossible to put emotions from September 11th, 2001 into words. We will never forget all of the men and women who lost their lives that day. We also remember the hundreds who have died since then, as well as the thousands who are sickened, as a result of the rescue and recovery efforts that followed.
IAFF Local 1352 statement regarding the vaccine mandate covered in Proclamation 21-14 that was announced by Governor Inslee on August 9th.

Please take a moment to remember the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have given their lives while serving our great country.
As Women’s month comes to an end, we would like to recognize the women of Local 1352. These women work tirelessly serving the community. We would also like to recognize recently retired Fire Marshal Karen Stewart, who was the first female chief officer within the VRFA/legacy Auburn Fire Dept. Also, Capt. Janeen Ruge who retired last year and was the first female firefighter with the Auburn Fire Department.
Your Valley Professional Fire Fighters, along with members of Kent Firefighters Local 1747 and King County Paramedics Local 2595, began administering the COVID-19 vaccine today at the GSA Campus in Auburn. There is also COVID-19 testing still available at this site as well! Our members have been busy administering vaccines and performing tests, but also went above and beyond by assisting one person with a flat tire and another who ran out of gas. Please click the link to donate! We are a couple of days away from purchasing gifts and we are at less than 60% of our fundraising goal at the time of this post! All gifts go directly to local families in our community.

We could not do this event without the help of our great community members and businesses. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we are not able to fundraise in person like we normally do, so we are relying on the donations that we are receiving online. Thank you for your consideration and we wish you a happy holiday season!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are in the final days of fundraising for our 2020 Toys for Kids drive and we are still short of our goal! Due to COVID-19, we have been unable to collect donations at local businesses as we have done in the past. We take great pride in the fact that these gifts go right back into our community. Thanks to the kind donations that we receive each year, we are typically able to support hundreds of families in the Auburn, Algona, and Pacific communities.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Each year we help hundreds of families celebrate Christmas in the Algona, Auburn, and Pacific communities. This year we are unable to collect money in public due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we are asking for your donations to buy gifts for our fellow community members. We use our proceeds to buy gifts at the Auburn Fred Meyer and all of these gifts stay in our community and are donated to our local citizens.

Please consider donating if you are able. We understand if you are unable to donate because these are certainly challenging times, but we appreciate any help that we can get! We wish everyone a happy holiday season!
Thank you to all veterans for your service to our country!

We are thankful for all of the mothers out there, including the several that are Valley Professional Fire Fighters!
This statement was written by a fellow firefighter and has been making the rounds. Please support our fellow members of our community who are struggling in these challenging times.

I am a Firefighter - a frontline worker, and to be honest I don't need free pizza or free cups of coffee. I don't need money off vouchers etc. I am grateful that I won’t be losing all my income due to this virus and as much as I greatly appreciate the gesture, please please please offer a free cup of coffee or pizza to the families who are struggling to feed their children, the older generation or self employed and to anyone else who is suffering financially from Covid-19 measures and are not covered by government grants or loans.
Thanks to our friends at Graham Fire & Rescue for this guide to help follow Jay Inslee's Stay at Home order! Please follow all current guidelines to help us minimize the spread of COVID-19!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from your Valley Professional Fire Fighters, including our 20 members that are on duty today.
We are setting up for our Toys for Kids event! There are 1,327 kids from Auburn, Pacific, and Algona signed up to receive gifts this year!
Your Valley Professional Fire Fighters stand by the EMTs of Teamsters Local 763. AMR refuses to continue contract negotiations and EMTs are scheduled to begin a strike tomorrow at noon (12/21). Unfortunately, as a private company, AMR puts profit ahead of the citizens who they serve and their employees.

Rest assured, if you call 911 during the strike, you will still get a response. There will be no fire department EMTs on strike. Your Valley Professional Fire Fighters will work tirelessly to give our citizens the service that you deserve. With that said, this strike will likely stretch resources thin in Seattle and King County due to longer out of service times on transports without the availability of AMR.

We urge AMR to return to negotiations and we stand by the EMTs and their families who are affected by the strike!
Take a moment to remember the men and women that lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor on this date in 1941. It has been 77 years since the attack, but we continue to remember the greater than 2,000 people who died that day.
Watch for your Valley Professional Fire Fighters and their families who will be collecting money and new/unused toys over the next couple of weeks! We will be outside of the Haggen in Lakeland Hills as well as Fred Meyer on 10th St NE. The money is used to purchase additional toys that go directly to kids in the Auburn, Pacific, and Algona area. We are able to support over 1,000 local kids and we wouldn't be able to do it without the support of our great community!
We are extremely thankful for the men and women who have selflessly served in the military. Many of your Valley Professional Fire Fighters served in the military prior to joining the fire service and some continue to serve in the reserves.
Come on down to Station 31 tomorrow, October 27th, from 11 am- 2 pm for an open house! There will be many different activities for people of all ages and your Valley Professional Fire Fighters will be selling hot dogs. Proceeds will be going to our benevolent fund which supports many different local causes.

Station 31 is located at 1101 D St. NE in Auburn.
It is hard to believe that it has been 17 years since the horrific attack on 9/11/2001. Although a lot of time has passed since the attack, we continue to remember the first responders and citizens who lost their lives that day. There were 343 firefighters who died that day and over 150 that have died since then of diseases such as cancer that can be directly attributed to time spent at Ground Zero.

This photo shows FDNY Ladder 118 crossing the Brooklyn Bridge en route to the WTC. There were 6 men onboard and they all lost their lives that day.

We will never forget 9/11.
WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY- Unfortunately, suicide is a growing problem in the fire service. A 2015 survey of more than 4,000 first responders found that 37% have contemplated suicide and almost 7% had attempted it. In comparison, that is over 10 times greater than the general population.

Whether you are a first responder or not, please remember that there are many resources that can help you. There are organizations directed towards first responders such as Safe Call Now or anyone can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline '1-800-273-TALK (8255)'.
A couple of our off-duty members dropped off coffee and doughnuts to the striking members of IUOE (International Union of Operating Engineers) Local 302. The members of IUOE Local 302 remain on strike but continue working on reaching a deal with the employer. This union represents the men and women that operate heavy equipment such as tower cranes, concrete pumpers, and more around the Puget Sound region and into Central Washington. We stand by our brothers and sisters as they work on getting fair wages, hours, and working conditions.

The hospital confirmed today that the dog had been discharged safely last night with her family and is expected to make a full recovery. We are looking forward to celebrating 100 years at the 2018 IAFF Convention, which will be hosted by Seattle Fire Fighters Union, Local 27.
